What is Valium used for and what are the side effects? Does it turn you into a drug induced zombie?
Valium is used in the management of anxiety disorders. It may also be used to treat agitation, shakiness, and hallucinations during alcohol withdrawal and to relieve certain types of muscle pain.
confusion, unusual thoughts or behavior;
unusual risk-taking behavior, decreased inhibitions, no fear of danger;
depressed mood, thoughts of suicide or hurting yourself;
hyperactivity, anxiety, agitation, hostility;
double vision, hallucinations;
weak or shallow breathing;
feeling like you might pass out;
muscle twitching, tremor;
fever, chills, body aches, flu symptoms;
jaundice (yellowing of the skin or eyes); or
urinating less than usual or not at all.
Less serious Valium side effects may include:
drowsiness, tired feeling;
dizziness, spinning sensation;
blurred vision;
sleep problems (insomnia), nightmares;
muscle weakness, lack of balance or coordination;
slurred speech;
nausea, vomiting, constipation;
headache, memory problems;
drooling or dry mouth;
skin rash; or
loss of interest in sex.
I have taken it before and if you take it a night time it makes you very sleepy. During the day I guess if tried to fight it you would be a zombie. I felt like one the next day.
what are the effects…
uses for treatment…
why are they perscribed…
etc…
plz don’t answer this question like unknown08. I would like scientific facts, hence the reason I posted this question in the science category.
They both act on the same receptors, valium is the granddaddy drug, whereas the structural modificantion to make Xanax makes it more different from valium than most of the other benzodiazepines.
Drugs of this class tend to impair short term memory, and that can impair learning and lead to bad grades.
The big difference is in elimination rates, Alprazolam(Xanax) is eliminated more rapidly than Valium, but it is difficult to talk numbers as active metabolites cloud up the picture.
BUT, “withdrawal symptoms maybe especially severe” with Xanax. This is probably because Valium and its active metabolites leave more slowly than Xanax.

Below is an FDA label information link for the slow release form of Xanax, drugs that have lost their patent usually do not have label information available at the FDA.

What would they do to someone who is in no pain, has no depression, etc?
My cousin and aunt are both dentists so i’m sure they can prescribe it to me… but what should i do to get them to gimme it?
I don’t wanna order anything online either.
What can i tell my doctor for him to prescribe me some valium?
Seriously…if you don’t need it, don’t take it! If you have to ask what to tell a doctor to make them give it to you…you don’t need it dude. I’m pretty sure doctors are the ones who suggest valium, not the patient..and i dont know if a dentist can prescribe valium for you.. they have to have a legitimate reason..i dont think there is any legitimate reason that a DENTIST could use to prove that you needed valium for your teeth?? dont get ur family in trouble..go to a real doc if ur gonna do it
What could occur if you were to combine alcohol with valium-like drugs, narcotics or antihistamines?
Choose one of the following
Becomes similar to a hallucinogens
Increases the effect of the depressants and could lead to respiratory depression, coma or death
Nothing, the drugs will cancel each other out
A paradoxical stimulant effect which could lead to high levels of anxiety and paranoia
Increases the effect of the depressants and could lead to respiratory depression, coma or death
However, you would have to have a lot of valium and alcohol for it to kill you. I regularly take 5-10mg with alcohol and it gives you a nice mellow buzz. Too much alcohol though and you black out. It’s weird, one minute you’re feeling great and the next thing you know you wake up a few hours later.
I’m not reccommending it as it is considered dangerous but IMHO it’s ok in moderation.
What is the difference in how you feel when you take a 2mg Xanax compared to a 10mg Valium?
Thank you
BOTH R ILLEGAL, UNLESS THEY R PRESCRIBED TO U!
What is the street value for a 2 mg valium??
ZERO and illegal.
How often can you take valium without actually becoming dependant on it or addicted in any way? I know that taking it every day will slowly have you hooked, but where is the break even point? Once a week? Three times a month? How often can you actually take it without any long term effects?
What is the highest dose of valium thats safe to take that will put me on cloud nine
while having dental work done?
I was prescribed 2mg tablets and I tested 1 tab the other night. Slept well and a tad high but I think I maybe need more than 2mg because I didn’t feel all that floaty.
Is it safe to take about 3 or 4 tabs, and will that do the job?
You may want to consider the effect on your driving if you’re going to be driving back and forth from the dentist. Otherwise, take whatever dose you choose about 2 hours before the procedure, and you will do better than taking it later, because Valium is better at preventing anxiety than at making it go away after it starts.
It’s hard to say what dose will work for you. You have a fear of dentists, I take it, and it depends on how strong that fear/phobia is, if I’m reading correctly that you have it. The 2 mg that makes you sleepy may not entirely get rid of your worries about dental work.
I’ve used Valium for a fear of flying. Ordinarily, 2 mg would be quite relaxing. To get me on a plane, it takes 20 mg. If you’re not taking any other medication or drug or drinking grapefruit juice, then yes, 6 or 8 mg of Valium ought to be safe. 15 mg/day is a common prescription and 40 mg/day is the maximum amount recommended in the PDR. Personally, it took a bunch of plane flights to gradually go from 5 to 10 to 15 to 20 mg to actually see what made the white knuckles go away. No one can predict what will “do the job”, and if you’re not scared of dentists, you don’t need to be “on cloud nine”.
But I would not recommend taking anything other than what your doctor prescribed, unless your doctor OK’s it – why not ask him/her? My doctor says, much like the poster above, to take a moderate dose of Valium for a week or so before a flight to have some in my system, then to take a larger dose to fly.
